I hate that word.
You probably feel like you sacrifice enough already. Honestly, you may feel like you sacrifice more than the person sitting next to you at church.
Many of you don’t know this, but I love collecting ancient coins especially coins connected to the Bible. Over the years, I’ve purchased several mites. It sounds like an insect, but a mite was the smallest form of currency in Israel in the first century. They were minted in copper or bronze almost worthless by any practical standard.
In Mark 12 and Luke 21 tell the story of widow’s mite.
Luke 21:1-4 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” He said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
One day, Jesus was sitting with His disciples near the temple treasury, watching people give their offerings. And it was there that Jesus reframed sacrifice for all of us.
The widow gave more than everyone else.
Others gave out of their abundance.
She gave out of her poverty.
She sacrificed.
Her gift was small, but her participation mattered.
The amount didn’t impress the Lord her motivation did.
Her heart was aligned with God.
I know some of you have been sacrificing financially for decades. Others haven’t sacrificed at all. So, I’m asking honestly and directly would you be willing to sacrifice financially for the next year to invest in our AV Campus?
Would you think beyond yourself? Beyond your own needs even beyond your kids?
And would you consider that your financial sacrifice today could help prepare generations you can’t even fathom right now.
Not because God needs your money, but because He invites you into the work.
And sacrifice isn’t about how much we give, it’s about whether we’re willing to trust Him with what we have.
